Has your partner died? Then you are entitled to a partner pension

Through Pension Fund Robeco, your partner was automatically insured for this partner pension, which is paid out for the rest of your life. This happens as early as the first month after death.

As a partner is considered

  • the spouse of the (former) employee of Robeco;
  • the registered partner of the (former) Robeco employee;
  • the unmarried person with whom the (former) Robeco employee cohabits.

The cohabitation must be recorded in a cohabitation agreement drawn up at the notary or you must have been registered at the same residential address for at least 5 years and be able to prove during that entire period that you have a duty of care towards each other. You must not be an immediate family member of this person.

Note: You are not entitled to a partner’s pension if you entered into the partnership on or after the effective date of your partner’s old-age pension.

Benefit amount depends on time of death

The amount of the partner pension depends on when your partner dies. Does he or she die after retirement? Then you will receive a partner pension equal to 70% (if your partner retired after 1 January 2011) or 75% (if your partner retired before 1 January 2011) of the retirement pension your partner received.

Does your partner die during employment with Robeco? Then the partner pension is 70 or 75% of the retirement pension your partner would have accrued if he or she had not died before the retirement pension commencement date.

Was your partner no longer employed by Robeco at the time of death? Then the partner pension will be 70 or 75% of the retirement pension your partner accrued while employed by Robeco.

You can find the exact amount of the partner pension on the Uniform Pension Statement of Pensioenfonds Robeco. Would you like to receive a copy of this statement? Then contact the pension fund at robecopensioen@achmea.nl or 013 462 3593.

Shortfall pension pursuant

Since the introduction of the General Surviving Relatives Act (Anw), survivor benefits have been drastically curtailed. You are entitled to an Anw benefit from the government after the death of your partner, if you:

  • were born before 1950 or;
  • have a child under the age of 18 or;
  • are at least 45% incapacitated for work.

Do you have your own income? Then this will be deducted from the Anw benefit.

To absorb the loss of income after the death of your partner, an ‘Anw gap insurance’ has been taken out as standard for all Robeco employees. Did your partner die while employed by Robeco? If so, you will receive an additional annual pension of EUR 17,860 (2023) from this insurance until you reach the state pension age and receive state pension benefits.

Note: Your partner may have waived the shortfall pension pursuant insurance. You can enquire at robecopensioen@achmea.nl or 013 462 3593.

Temporary partner pension

Has your partner died and you are younger than 67? Then you will receive an additional temporary partner pension until you reach 67. It is intended to compensate for premiums and social security contributions, which you no longer pay when you are 67 or older. The temporary partner pension amounts to a maximum of 20% of the ‘normal’ partner pension.

Orphan’s pension

The orphan’s pension is paid to your possible children after your partner’s death after retirement, subject to conditions. The orphan’s pension stops when your child turns 27. The orphan’s pension amounts to 20% of the accrued partner pension. Was your partner still employed at the time of death? Then each child will receive 20% of the partner’s pension your partner would have accrued if he or she had not died before the retirement date. Have both parents died? Then a double orphan’s pension will be paid.
